SERVICES

Artificial Insemination – AI is the process of regularly scanning a mare to track her cycle development, inducing ovulation at the appropriate time, then inseminating with either fresh, chilled or frozen semen. This process allows vets to provide treatment (both uterine and systemic) if we detect any problems, prepare the mare for the best conception rates and advise on management throughout the pregnancy. Through artificial insemination we can provide genetics from anywhere in the world with frozen, and from across the country with chilled. In young, healthy mares with healthy reproductive tracts, conception rates can be up to (60-70%) with chilled and (40-50%) with frozen AI.

Embryo Transfer – Embryo transfer is the process of collecting an embryo from a pregnant mare and implanting it into a recipient mare. This allows the genetics of the dam to be passed on to the foal without having to carry the pregnancy. This may be to allow that mare to compete or for health issues relating to carrying a pregnancy. The process involves artificial insemination of the donor mare, then a 7-8 days later flushing her uterus and collecting the embryo. It is then examined under the microscope, washed, graded and implanted into the recipient mare to carry the pregnancy.
